Perfect Redeemer

We are now on our next series called Past/Perfect. In this series, we will look at how Gods perfect promise unfolded in a world that has an imperfect past. Together with our pastor’s preaching, I will also add my own insight on this topic.

We all know that simple disobedience can result to more sin and the consequence of sin is death; but we are blessed to have a Redeemer who will pay for all our sins.

What is the meaning of the word redeem? Merriam Webster says that redeem means to be free from captivity by payment of ransom. In Exodus 12, God already planned to save the Israrelites in their slavery from the Egyptians. We as humans tend to be slaves of something or someone as well; but God paid the ransom for us to be released from that slavery.

There are 3 things that we have to understand in the process of redemption :

1. Cost – all redemption must have a cost.

A life for a life. When God instructed the Israelites, He asked to go and select a perfect lamb and kill the Passover Lamb. The lamb’s life is equivalent to save the first born’s life.

Jesus died so we can be redeemed from sin, poverty, addiction, depression, unforgiveness, failed relationships, love of money, pornography, and even our dark past. He died so we can live and enjoy life abundantly. It is a good thing to know that our Redeemer lives. He is not deaf to not hear our prayers nor is He blind to not see what’s happening to us.

In Christianity, we must die from our own selves so we can have the redemption that God promised us. When we start to live for God, we die on our old selves and start to obey what He wants us to do.

2. Response – faith and obedience.

Our response should be complete obedience. God instructed many “detailed” things to the Israelites : the male lamb must be 1 yr old; they must take the “blameless” lamb on the 10th day but kill on the 14th day. If the Israelites didn’t follow the exact instructions that God gave them, then the angel of death will still kill all the first born in their homes.

In our lives, God gives us specific instructions but we tend to not obey everything. We tend to know more than God and do what we want instead. The result of our simple disobedience will result from one more compromise into another. We will have a trend of different sin daily until we lose track of what God wants us to do. We will trust ourselves more instead of trusting Him completely.

Also, the Israelites don’t own too many things; but the moment God asked for their lamb, they just trusted God that He will redeem the Israelites even though it would cost them something.

For us to be redeemed from something, we need to completely TRUST the REDEEMER that after our complete obedience, He will definitely save us from our “Egypt.” Our Egypt is anything/anyone that enslaves us. We need to be free from them. I believe that the Israelites obeyed because they trusted God and His promise to free them from Egypt.

3. Result – complete deliverance

Exodus 12:41 – And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years–on that very same day–it came to pass that all the armies of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt.

If we will trust God, there will be a complete deliverance.

Jesus is our Perfect Lamb. The exact description of the lamb speaks about Jesus :

1. Male lamb

2. Without blemish

3. No broken bones

4. Slaughtered at twilight

5. Blood must be sprinkled

We may have the worst sin and experiences from the past but we were redeemed by the perfect sacrifice of Jesus.

Without the shedding of blood, there is no redemption and salvation. Jesus gave His life and died on the cross so we would be redeemed from everything/everyone who are enslaving us today. What is stopping you from serving God? Who or what is giving you a hard time? What keeps you away from God’s love? What makes you unhappy? Is it unforgiveness, pride, laziness, sickness, depression, wrong relationships, love for material things, or any  sin that hinders you in knowing God? God already redeemed You by His blood. You are already FREE. Do not be slaves by anything/anyone that doesn’t have any power against you. Let me pray for you.

Father, I pray for this reader. I pray Lord that You show him/her the things/situation/persons that are enslaving him/her. I pray God that You help him/her to be free from this bondage and may You give him/her a new life with peace and free from any worries or pain. Lord, give this reader the discernment to know what is right from wrong, the ability to obey Your instructions and the heart to trust You completely. Lord, free this reader from anger, pain, sickness, poverty, wrong relationship, sadness, pornography, or any other thing/people who are keeping and making him/her as slaves. Lord, protect them. Let them know You more and keep them away from any bondage. Free them Father. You already redeemed them by Your blood many years ago. They are now free from all these things. I pray that You bless this person abundantly and may he/she always live for Your glory alone. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
