Thank God It’s Monday!

We are now in our next series called “Thank God It’s Monday.” In this series, we will learn how to honor God in our work. As usual, I will post my notes from the Pastor who preached last week then add my insights in the middle of my post.

Some of us have work and some of us doesn’t have any work. This series may not be appealing to those who don’t have work because they thank God daily for not working. They have the mentality of “It’s ok to be lazy rather than tired.” That’s wrong! We should all work. If you are a student, being in school is your work. We should work hard and give our best everyday — not like them!

There’s also some who has work and love working TOO MUCH to the point that they are already “workaholic.” They are the ones who work TOO hard that their career has become their ultimate source of provision, significance and identity. They forgot that it’s God who provides for them, they begin to think that it’s their job who provides. They magnify what they CAN DO that they already forgot what God has done for them. A workaholic is someone who sacrifices time, relationship, and values just to prioritize his career. It is when the worker already make compromises just to keep his job; and while he is in the altar of success, he sacrifices his relationship with his family or his wife. The sad thing about being too workaholic is the idea that we cannot bring back the things we’ve lost, the moments that passed and the relationships that have been broken because of hurt. When our relationships are already sacrificed because of work, we cannot fix nor return time anymore.

Now the questions are why should we work and how should we work?

The answer is like God. God, who is our Creator showed the perfect example of why and how should we work.

There are 3 things that we should remember about God as a Worker : 

1. The First – The first book, chapter, and verse narrates that in the beginning, God worked. If our Creator works, why wouldn’t we? When we work, we are not idle. When we are idle, we tend to think negatively. When we think negatively, satan will use it as a tool for us to sin. A few seconds of a man’s idle time can lead him into temptation or sin just as the few seconds of a woman’s idle time can lead to depression or anger.

2. The Finest – God is an Excellent Worker. His creation speaks of His wonders.

We do not have a boring God. He created the heaven and earth wonderfully; including the littlest details that we couldn’t fathom. Even Science can’t explain where we came from. God spent time in doing everything. He didn’t just work. He gave His BEST!

Wow, this song says it all. How amazing our God is. God doesn’t like a mediocre job. We need to be excellent in little things so we’ll be blessed with too much. Be skillful. We will definitely go places with that kind of attitude. Stop the “Pwede na yan!” mindset. Instead, let us put our best foot forward for the Lord.

3. Finisher – God didn’t just start, He finished all His work. Do you feel tired for giving all your best and not receive the treatment nor the recognition you deserve? Do not grow weary in doing good… you will have a greener pasture too. With trials comes perseverance; perseverance will perfect a character; a character produces a man and woman of hope.

We have to face trials to persevere. With perseverance, we build character. With a persevering heart comes a man of hope.

If you noticed that someone is blessed abundantly in a certain job, do not think that you should also belong in his world. God has wired us individually. He has His own ways of blessing us.. and that is in our own workplace. We do not have to jump from one company to another just because we see a minor issue from our current job. We all have our own blessings that we may not be getting because we kept on jumping from one company to another.

If we stick to our jobs, God will bless us abundantly.

Let us all FINISH the tasks assigned to us. Stop the “ningas kugon” practices we have as Filipinos. Let us all FINISH the  RACE that God has STARTED IN US then be surprised of the many things that God has in store for us.

Now if we will think that God was able to make an excellent job in His creation because He is God; then let’s see Jesus’ life. He became like us so He can give His life for you and me. He was able to FINISH THE TASK that God the Father gave Him because He is not a mediocre God who settles for anything less.

Because of what He finished on the cross, we are now saved.

Lord, I pray for this reader who is looking for a job. I pray that he will find the perfect job for him. A job where he will enjoy and give honor in Your Kingdom. I pray that You bless this reader with Your favor and let him be a vessel to provide for his family. We pray that he will continue to put his hope in You and trust that he will have a job because of Your favor. Help him in the interview and tests. May he have a good job offer soon. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen

To those who have jobs but lost the will to work, please join me in prayer.

Father, we commit to You this reader who has lost his will to work. I pray that you remind him the very reason why he is working and always inspire him to do good for Your glory. Lord, remind him of his reward not just here on earth but also in heaven. Let his eyes be fixed on You and what You want him to do in his job — to be the salt and light to his officemates. I pray Lord that you bless this reader with promotion, favor and strength. May he always find joy in everything that he will do and may You always bless the works of his hands. Use this reader’s family, officemates and friends to inspire him in giving his best in everything that he will do. Thank You Lord. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
